The matriarch of our family, Alicia Valdivia Betancourt, went to be with the Lord and join her husband, Antonio Valdivia, on February 2, 2026. Funeral Mass will be 10:00am Friday, February 6, 2026, at St. Patrick Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Galveston under the direction of Carnes Brothers Funeral Home. The family will receive visitors at the funeral home on Thursday from 5:00pm until 8:00pm where a rosary will be recited at 6:30pm.

Alicia was born on May 28, 1934, in the small town of Nuevo Ideal, Durango. She married Antonio Valdivia, and together they shared sixty years of marriage, building a life rooted in love, faith, and devotion to family. Together through their strength, sacrifice, and determination, four children were raised: Benjamin, Armando, Raquel, and Lola Barragan.

She is survived by her siblings, Manuela Alcocer and Guadalupe Betancourt, her children and their spouses, Mauricio Barragan and Aracely Valdivia, along with nine grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren, all of whom were the pride and joy of her life.

Lovingly known as "Mam" by those who cherished her, Alicia was an avid crocheter from a young age. Her home was filled with warmth and the irresistible aroma of delicious food coming from her kitchen. She was an incredible cook, best known for her homemade flour tortillas, which she faithfully prepared every Wednesday.

Above all, Mam will be remembered for her deep faith and her prayers. One of the greatest blessings she offered was the prayer she lovingly spoke over her family—and over anyone who asked it of her. Her love, faith, and legacy will live on in all who were blessed to know her.

Pallbearers will be Benjamin Valdivia, Richard Valdivia, Alex Barragan, Alonzo Barragan, Marco Vazquez, Ivan Hernandez,  Sebastian Hernandez, and Ben Valdivia.

La matriarca de nuestra familia, Alicia Valdivia Betancourt, partió a la presencia del Señor y a reunirse con su esposo, Antonio Valdivia, el 2 de febrero de 2026. Nació el 28 de mayo de 1934 en el pequeño pueblo de Nuevo Ideal, Durango.

Alicia se casó con Antonio Valdivia, y juntos compartieron sesenta años de matrimonio, construyendo una vida basada en el amor, la fe y la devoción a la familia. Con su fortaleza, sacrificio y determinación, criaron a cuatro hijos: Benjamín, Armando, Raquel y Lola Barragán.

Le sobreviven sus hijos y sus cónyuges, Mauricio Barragán y Aracely Valdivia, junto con nueve nietos y siete bisnietos, quienes fueron el orgullo y la alegría de su vida.

Conocida cariñosamente como "Mam" por quienes la querían, Alicia fue aficionada del tejido desde joven. Su hogar siempre estaba lleno de calidez y del irresistible aroma de la deliciosa comida que salía de su cocina. Era una cocinera excepcional, famosa por sus tortillas de harina caseras, que preparaba fielmente todos los miércoles.

Sobre todo, Mam será recordada por su profunda fe y sus oraciones. Una de las mayores bendiciones que ofreció fue la oración que con tanto amor elevaba por su familia y por cualquiera que se lo pidiera. Su amor, su fe y su legado perdurarán en todos los que tuvieron la dicha de conocerla.
