He attended Galveston public schools then at 18 years old, proudly served in the U.S. Air Force for three years. Four months later, he married the love of his life, Dominga Toledo Colon and then relocated to Chicago, where he spent the next 50 years of his life.

His hobbies included, playing dominos & poker, word search puzzles, listening to music, watching action movies and doing handy work around his home & garage. After 54 years of marriage and the passing of loving wife Dominga in 2009, Rod decided to move to Texas in 2015 to be near his brothers and sisters.
He loved the Texas weather and wanted to spend the rest of his life on Galveston Island. He enjoyed cruising the beach and parking on the Seawall to enjoy the view and sounds of the waves while eating his lunch from his favorite restaurants. He also enjoyed spending time with his brothers, sisters, and other family members during weekend barbecues, birthday parties, holidays and other family events. He also enjoyed his quiet time at home watching Family Feud, Let's Make a Deal & Wheel of Fortune.
Rod was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend to everyone. He had a great sense of humor and loved to laugh and enjoy himself. He was true to his character and always did things his way. He was very genuine with his affection and loyalty to his friends. He loved telling jokes and making people laugh, long conversations, and enjoyed time with his friends and family.
