Born on November 1, 1939, in San Antonio, Texas to Juan Moreno Sr. and Josefa Hernandez Moreno. Bertha Moreno passed away at 5:57AM Tuesday, March 5, 2024, at Jennie Sealy Hospital in Galveston. She is survived by great niece and nephew Nicole and David Canales who she raised and her siblings Manuel Moreno and wife Nora, Oscar Moreno and wife Rosie, Josie Laird, Mary Ann Pothos, Theresa Kalsnes and husband Earl and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters Evangelina Arredondo, Orfelina Canales, Vera Gandara and her brothers Robert, Arnold, and Juan Moreno Jr.

Raised in Galveston, Bertha attended Ball High School where she was a member of several school organizations. She went on to graduate from the Galveston Metropolitan Business School.

In the early 1960s she relocated to Houston where she began her career in employment placement for adults and students at Vocational Guidance Services before moving on to work at the Minority Women's Program. In time, she moved back to her hometown of Galveston and continued her work in the Galveston County Job Training Program until her retirement.

In life, Bertha enjoyed politics, dancing, traveling with her sisters and volunteering for Fiesta Patrias. A center of the family, not a day went by that she wasn't visited by many loved ones. She delighted in feeding and caring for her nieces and nephews. She will be missed by her large and loving family.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00AM on Friday, March 8, 2024, at Carnes Brothers Funeral Home, 1201 23rd St., Galveston, TX 77550.  Entombment will follow at Calvary Catholic Mausoleum in Galveston.
