Betty Jo (Meyer) Lee age 93 was born Elizabeth Josephine Meyer, Monday, March 24,1930 in Galveston, Texas to John Meyer, Sr. and Elizabeth Pearl Sedgwick Meyer, ended her journey as God's earth angel, beloved Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, Great-Great Grandmother, Aunt and friend to many Friday, July 21, 2023, at Sodalis Assisted Living in Texas City, Texas. She was surrounded by her family and friends.

Betty Jo is preceded in death by her mother, father, sister-Imogene (Meyer) Vanda, two brothers, Johnny Meyer, Jr. and Lester Meyer, Wallace Lee, Billy Jack Lee, Sr. and her eldest son, Kenneth Wayne Johns. Survivors include her loving children: Cherie Yvonne Lee, Billy Jack Lee, Jr., Vivian Darlene Lee, Bobby Oliver Lee and his wife, Michele Hastings Lee. She is also survived by several grandkids, great-grandkids, great-great grandkids, nieces, and nephews.

Betty Jo lived her life to the fullest. She trained and worked at John Sealy Hospital and St. Mary's Hospital, where she worked in the OR and Labor and Delivery retiring with 27 years of service. She was an avid Catholic, attending St. Mary's Cathedral Basilica, Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, St. Patrick's Catholic Church and Sacred Heart Catholic Church. All five of her children were baptized, had communion and were confirmed as Catholics. She was a choir member of each church she attended, was a Dominican Graduate and volunteered often at the St. Mary's Soup Kitchen for the homeless. She loved hosting two orphans every Thanksgiving from Catholic Charities for several years.

Betty Jo was a go-getter of great character and strength; Qualities she instilled in all five children.

Betty Jo loved to sing and often did private party receptions and at times played the keyboard. She would always dress up at Halloween and hand out candy. She especially enjoyed dressing up during Mardi Gras in Galveston. She could often be seen dancing, as she joined in the parade down the seawall.

Betty Jo was a kind, loving heart who also helped many people with many tasks throughout the years. She also, befriended some less fortunate individuals, whom she made sure had rides to places they needed to go. She was very lucky at Bingo and the casinos all her life, and she shared all she had won to as many as she could. She made many friends and was loved by all.  Her family and friends will remember her loving heart forever. She will always be in our hearts!

A Special Life Celebration will be officiated by Reverend Cherie Yvonne Lee Saturday, August 5, 2023, at Carnes Brothers Funeral Home at 1201 Tremont, Galveston, Texas 77550, from 5 pm until 8 pm. So, please bring your stories to honor Betty Jo (Meyer) Lee.
