BETTY JEAN "MOMMIE" SHAW

Betty Jean "Mommie" Shaw was born on April 28, 1942, in Harris County, Texas, to Bernice Wilkins. After her mother passed Mom was adopted by Leola and Theodore Price of Huntsville, Texas who raised her as their own. She married Johnnie Shaw, Sr. and brought to this union their children, Patricia Marie, Johnny, Valjean, Mona, Lisa and Yvette. She accepted Christ at a young age in the Baptist Faith but switched to the Catholic Faith when her first two children, Patricia Marie and Johnny were of school age.

Mom was employed as a waitress at The Jack Tar Hotel, Gaidos, Denny's @ Galvez Mall and then went to work at JoJo's on the Seawall when it first opened. After this wonderful and sometimes stressful occupation she went into the nursing field as being a home health provider to various clients.

When the big stroke and grand mal seizure of 2001 hit Mom was unable to walk again and had to rely on a wheelchair to get around. This did not stop her from attending any occasion that the grandchildren had as she would always say "from hell or high water I'll be there!" She loved going to the movies, out to eat, going over to her family and friends house to see them to mingle, reminisce and brag about the grandchildren or great-children she was blessed with. She loved going to see her favorite hairdresser, Vicki Gonzales, AND loved going to Coushatta to try her luck.

Mom gave her love unconditionally. She gave freely when she could and called everyone her daughter or son. She loved giving hugs and was sure to let you know that God loved you and so did she. If you had troubling times she'd always say, Pray . If you didn't know how to pray she would say "call on Jesus! Jesus! Jesus! Jesus! She loved her children and did whatever she could for them and always let them know that she loved them. Cupcake said of Mommie "she is my Sheldon – we took her places, we gathered often at her house, she was a sassy pants and always with a quick come back and lots of laughter."

She loved to cook and would always be in the kitchen "directing" the grandchildren on what to add, when to mix, when to cut off or take out what it was being cooked out of the oven, she always said "let me taste it" or her favorite saying, "go let Unkie taste it."

Mom instilled in her children to love and to be nice to everyone even if they were not. She loved to talk and listen to anyone who called or texted or stopped by and she had a way of making you feel good even if were having a bad day. She really brightened up when her daughters, grandchildren and great-grandchildren would stop by to see her or called her. She really loved to have her picture taken and would always get on her "spoiled son" to take them with her. She had a love for plants and flowers especially roses and would have a smile from ear to ear when she was given them. Her last batch of roses she received on her birthday from her daughter Patricia, grandson Richard and of course her "spoiled rotten son" just overwhelmed her and brought her to tears. She was able to spend her last birthday surrounded by her daughter, Lisa, grandsons Darryl Keith, Richard and Brad, great grandchild Tayvion, her son Johnny, Jr and her oldest Patricia via facetime. She also loved to talk on the phone to her other daughters, grand and great grandchildren throughout the day.

Mom is preceded in death by her mother Bernice Wilkins, husband Johnny Shaw, Sr., adopted parents Leola and Theodore Price. Her Aunt Dorothy Frierson and her husband Johnny, her cousins and their wives Clarence (Paula), Lisbon Jr, Charles, Julius (Bertha) and Harold Wilkins. Her dear and good friends Muriel Monroe, Rita McCardell and Lauressa Joe.

Betty Jean leaves behind to cherish her life memories and legacy her Daughters Patricia Marie Shaw, Valjean Shaw, Mona Shaw, Lisa Shaw and Yvette Shaw and her only Son Johnny Shaw, Jr. Grandchildren Darryl "Peanut" Keith Shaw, Shaquin Alexander "Crickett" Walker (Jaye), Jamara Nicole "Frenchy" Ambroise, Richard "Budman" O'Dell Shaw, Jessica Antoinette "Angel" Henry, Brad Delvon "Pooh Bear" Henry, Nailah Shaw-Caldwell, and Christen Jean "Cupcake" Momie. Her Great Grandchildren Jaiden Marquis "Bam Bam" Williams, Tayvion Malik "Lil Sherman" Henry, Marlee Jai "Peaches" Walker, Josiah Prince "Lil Duke" Henry, Braden Jax "Maximus" Henry and Jaye Ryan "Bubba Jay" Walker, Jr. The Wilkins Family of Houston, Texas. Her good friend that she referred to as her Sister, Dorothy "Ms. Dot" Woodland, son Monty and daughter Michelle "Mickey" Woodland. Her daughters Tommie Love and Family, Janet Gutierrez Salas and Family and Elsa Lian and Family.
