Cecilia Martinez age 67 of Texas City peacefully passed away Tuesday, December 2, 2025 at UTMB Hospital in Galveston. Funeral Mass will be held 10:00am Saturday, December 6, 2025 at St. Patrick Catholic Church. The family will receive visitors at Carnes Brothers Funeral Home on Friday from 5:00pm until 8:00pm where a rosary will be recited at 6:30pm.
Cecilia was born August 23, 1958 in Queretaro, Queretaro, Mexico, the daughter of Maria Martinez. She immigrated to the United States and came to Galveston, Texas in 1980 where she worked as a cook at "La Palma Mexican Restaurant" for 10 plus years. She worked at many Mexican restaurants in Galveston and Texas City such as Santiagos, El Nopolito, Bravos and La Nopalera. She was famously known for her "Surprise burritos with homemade flour tortillas, which she served in the early hours to the Galveston ILA Longshoreman for many years.
Cecilia was the mother of 4 wonderful children, 16 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Her grandchildren will always remember anxiously waiting for their favorite bean and cheese burritos. She enjoyed cooking, gardening and filling her house with Fito Olivares Music.
Survivors include her children Janet Gutierrez, Juana Gutierrez, Pascual Guiterrez (Beronica Garcia Guiterrez), and Ana M. Gutierrez (Roberto Rodriguez); grandchildren Leeann Salgado (Edgar Avalos), Melissa Salgado (Jesus A. Ponce), Roberto Rodriguez, Jr. (Jennifer Torres), Jennifer Q. Rodriguez, Luis Ricardo (Richard) (Rebecca L. Wooten), Diego (Gogo) Gutierrez (Julissa G. Salinas), Otilio M. Guerrero (Flacko) (Adoaina A. Salazar), Margrita (Maggie) Guerrero, Katherine Gutierrez, Leticia S. Gutierrez, Santiago P. Gutierrez, Daniel D. Saucedo Garcia, Ernesto E. Mendoza Gutierrez, Juan F. Mendoza Gutierrez and Adrian A. Mendoza Gutierrez; great grandchildren Andrew, Edgar, Yuliana, Kimberly, Krystal, Izack, Adriel, Leonard and Gabriel.
