Retired GPD Officer Clemente J. Garcia, Jr. age 75 of Texas City passed into eternity Friday, February 23, 2024 at UTMB Hospital in League City. Funeral services are 10:00am Saturday, March 2, 2024 at Carnes Brothers Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Galveston. The family will receive visitors from 5:00pm until 8:00pm Friday at the funeral home where a rosary will be recited at 6:30pm.
Clemente was born January 12, 1949 in Galveston to Clemente J. Garcia, Sr. and Catalina DeLaRosa Garcia. He was a 1968 graduate of Ball High School. He joined the GPD Reserves in 1973 and hired on full time in 1975, retiring in 2003. He then became employed with the Port of Galveston Police Department retiring a second time in 2013. He was a member of the Texas Municipal Police Association (TMPA) and a faithful catholic his entire life. Clem lived a life dedicated to the safety of all citizens and did that with the highest level of professionalism that could be displayed. His courage and patriotism will be remembered for years to come. Rest with the angels, you have earned it.
Clemente was preceded in death by his parents Clemente, Sr. and Catalina Garcia, a son Clemente Juan Garcia, III, sister Catalina Garcia and brother Carlos Garcia . He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years Sammye Jo Garcia of Texas City; daughter Lindsay Bernadette Garcia Jackson and husband Michael Wayne Jackson, Jr. of Dickinson; sons Nicholas J. Garcia and wife Jasmine Salome Garcia of Chesapeake, VA and Ryan Christopher Garcia and wife Barbara J. Blackwell Garcia of Virginia Beach, VA; grandchildren Clemente, IV, Maria, Jared, Heaven, Dominic, Ronan, Jaxon, Laila, Mariah, Riley and Catalina Jo Garcia; sisters Helen Campos and Frances Rodriguez and husband Oscar all of Texas City and JoAnn Pena of Galveston; brothers Joe Garcia and Michael Garcia and wife Debbie all of Galveston numerous nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers will be his comrades in blue from the Galveston Police Department and The Port of Galveston Police Department Honor Guard.
