David Louis Havel (64) went to be with his Lord and Savior on May 28, 2024 at his home in Galveston, TX, after a hard-fought battle with cancer. Dave was born on Feb. 26, 1960 in Port Lavaca to Alouis and Anita Havel. A resident of Baytown, TX for the majority of his life, he graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in 1978. In 1981, while a groomsman in a friend's wedding, Dave met a bridesmaid, T. Lynne Moore, who would turn out to be the love of his life.

While living in Baytown, Dave was a member of Kiwanis, where he received the George F. Hixon Award for his work in the community; served his community on the Goose Creek CISD Board of Trustees, where he served as president from 2000-2001; was an active member of the Baytown Little Theatre both on-stage and off; coached his sons baseball and soccer teams; served several years on the board of Baytown Central Little League where he started the Challenger Division for special needs children; spearheaded a benefit concert for those impacted by Hurricane Ike; was named Arco Chemical Volunteer of the Year; and cooked for thousands of people at fundraisers, events, and cast parties over the years.

After a career as a professional salesman, he and T. Lynne moved to Galveston in 2017 to enjoy their retirement. After getting settled in Galveston, Dave once again dove headfirst into serving others. His involvement in the Galveston community included being an active member of West Isle Presbyterian Church; Island Men's Fellowship; the Galveston Island Camp of Gideon's International; Meals on Wheels; Saint Vincent's House; Kiwanis, where he helped start the Ball High Key Club, Galveston Rotary Club, and Galveston Pachyderm Club; and Lighthouse Charity Team, where he served on the board and organized the 2022 casino night and 2023 golf tournament.

Dave was a servant-leader who gave all he had to everything he did and everyone he met, but never wanted accolades for it. The beacon of light that was his warm smile, welcoming nature, and bad jokes will be dearly missed in the Galveston and Baytown communities.

The only thing Dave was more passionate about than serving his community was his family, which he loved with all he had. Dave leaves behind his wife of 37 years, T. Lynne; sons Logan (wife Laine) and Mac (wife Kelsey); grandchildren Vivien, Hank, James and Ben; siblings Bonita Havel, Anthony "Hooty" Havel and Callie Montgomery; seven nieces and nephews; and countless friends and strangers whose lives have been touched.

A Celebration of Life will be held 11:00 am Saturday, June 8, 2024 at Carnes Brothers Funeral Home in Galveston (1201 Tremont, Galveston, TX 77550).
