Obituary

Delores "Lola" Guarnelo, 82, of Texas City, Texas, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 3, 2025, at her residence, surrounded by her loving family.

Born on March 24, 1942, on Galveston Island, Texas, Lola was the daughter of Celso Vargas Jr. and Anita Hernandez. She retired from Todd's Shipyard but remained active in life, owning and operating The El Ranchito Club in the 1980s. Known for her famous tamales and delicious baked goods, she continued sharing her culinary talents for many years. Above all else, her family was the center of her world, and she devoted herself to them wholeheartedly. Her love and generosity were returned in kind by those who cherished her throughout her life.

Lola was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Mariano Guarnelo Sr.; her brothers, Juan Celso Vargas and Ernie Vargas; her sister, Anita Trevino; and her granddaughter, Amber Marie Guarnelo. She is survived by her daughter, Christina Marie Ochoa and husband Louis T.D. Ochoa Sr.; her sons, Marino Guarnelo and Tony Ray Guarnelo Sr.; her sisters, Sarah Garcia, Clara Grimaldo, Elizabeth Hernandez, and Rita Vargas Jimenez; her grandchildren, Tony Ray Guarnelo Jr., Anthony Rene Guarnelo, Angelica Alexis Yanez and wife Patience Mon-Li Yanez, and Israel Joseph Yanez; and great-grandchildren Jada Marie Guarnelo, Gelise Christine Marie Carter, and Alonzo Xavier Tamez. She also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many dear friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 13, 2025, at Carnes Brothers Funeral Home, with Reverend Daniel Alvarado officiating. The family will receive visitors beginning at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home.

Lola's kindness and unwavering love for her family will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
