Doris Marie Scofelia, age 78 of Galveston, died Monday March 4, 2024 surrounded by her loving family, at The Shoal Care Center in Texas City. Funeral services are 1:00 pm Thursday March 7, 2024 at Carnes Brothers Funeral Home with visitation beginning at 11:00 am. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Galveston.

A beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, Doris was born October 6, 1945 and grew up in Galveston. She was a 1963 graduate of Ball High School. She met the love of her life, Joseph Dominic Scofelia in 1970 and were married on April 8, 1977.  After high school, she worked for many years at KILE Radio Station and later became a Goldsmith, opening S & K Treasure Chest on the Strand in Galveston. She was very active with the Eagles Aerie 48 for many years where she served running the deli and calling bingo. A big lover of Mardi Gras, she was a member of the Krewe of Aquarius and became Queen in 1992. Doris was an accomplished artist who was known for her acrylic and oil paintings, as well as her love for anything that sparkles. Doris's art was often displayed at the Galveston Art Walk and could be found in local galleries. She could create anything she envisioned, from Christmas ornaments to treasure ball trains. She was an active member of the Church of the Living God. Doris was happiest when using her hands, which were usually busy making something crafty, playing with her great grandbaby, or giving a warm hug. Doris was a kind woman who enjoyed eating Cadberry chocolate, spending time with her family, and going fishing and crabbing.

Doris was preceded in death by her husband Joseph Dominic Scofelia; sisters Sandra Lee Horne and Winafae Ryan; and step son Michael Scofelia. Survivors include her daughter Jennifer Jo "J.J." Myers and husband Steven of Galveston; granddaughters Ashley Marie Eaves and husband J. Brett of Clear Lake, Lacey Hayward of Galveston; great granddaughter Cecelia Reese Eaves of Clear Lake; sister Kathy Davis of La Marque; niece Crystal Gates of League City, great nephew Hayden Gates of League City; nephew Herbert Dunlap, Jr. of Rosharon; step daughter Micki Kay Loar and husband Chris of Vidor; granddaughter Krystal Trahan and husband Brandon, great grandchildren Ayden, Vayln and Cruz Trahan; granddaughter Kandis Kordie and husband Josh , great grandsons Landen Carter and Kye Kordie all of Vidor; grandson Steven Loar of Utah; daughter in law Mary Scofelia of Vidor; grandson Micah Scofelia and Roni Lopez of Corpus Christi; great grandchildren Alicia and Dominic of Corpus Christi; numerous other relatives and many, many friends.

Pallbearers are Hayden Gates, Brett Eaves, Alexander Crocker, Herbie Dunlap, Jr., Micah Scofelia, and Christopher Loar.
