Elsie Badgett Graugnard, 100, died Thursday, July 23, 2026, in Galveston, Texas. She was born May 30, 1926 and lived in Galveston almost 90 years.
Elsie was predeceased by her beloved husband of 49 years, Ronald S. Graugnard, son Robert Bruce Graugnard, sisters Joan Trochesset , Joyce Davidson, Jeraldine Tollett, Geneva Miller, and Genice Ennen. Elsie is survived by her two daughters, Sandra Holmes of Colorado Springs, CO, and Carolyn Emerson (Don) of Austin, TX, son Ronald Graugnard, Jr. of Galveston, TX, grandson Jeffrey Letts of Caldwell, TX, granddaughters Terra Emerson and Margaret Emerson of Austin, TX, sister Jeanette Shukanes (James), sister-in-law Patricia Johns, brothers-in-law Wallace Trochesset and Dale Davidson, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Upon graduating from Ball High School, Elsie worked for the Santa Fe Railroad where she met Ronnie. She chose to be a full-time homemaker when their children were born, later volunteering with PTA, Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts. She returned to a career with Galveston ISD for 21 years holding various roles, from elementary schools Rosenberg, Oppe, Parker as well as Ball High.
Sewing, gardening and music were among Elsie's hobbies, with many lifelong friends meeting for regular sewing club gatherings, attending Galveston Beach Band concerts or volunteering at The Grand.
Elsie loved to travel and was able to travel with Ronnie to Europe in celebration of their 45th anniversary.
Funeral services will be held at Carnes Brothers Funeral Home in Galveston, August 8, 2026, at 10:00 am, with visitation Friday August 7th from 4-7 pm. Burial will follow services Saturday at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Dickinson.
