George Nicholas Agorastos Jr. age 86 of Galveston died Wednesday, July 16, 2025, at his residence in Galveston. Funeral services are 10:00am Monday, July 21, 2025, at Island Church in Galveston, Pastor Rusty Martin officiating with visitation beginning at 9:00am. Burial will follow at Lakeview Cemetery in Galveston under the direction of Carnes Brothers Funeral Home.
George was born March 14, 1939, in Galveston to George Nicholas Agorastos Sr. and Florence Thompson Agorastos. He was a 1957 graduate of Ball High School. After school he worked for Todd's Shipyard for a number of years and then American National Insurance Company. He then joined Texas A & M University in Galveston as the Shipping and Receiving Superintendent where he retired after 22 years of service. In his leisure time, George enjoyed attending church where he served in many roles as a prayer warrior and volunteer. He loved reading his Bible and was always the first person to help others when there was a need. He also enjoyed walking with his beloved wife Bernice and riding his bicycle for exercise.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years Joyce Bernice Cooper Agorastos of Galveston; sons Kevin Agorastos and wife Maryles of Galveston, George Nicholas Agorastos III and wife Christy of Nevada, Steven Agorastos of Galveston and Ronald Agorastos of Hawaii; brother Emilo Mata and wife Lavelle of Texas; 8 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
