Gilbert Salinas, Sr. age 92 of Galveston died Sunday March 14, 2021 at his residence in Galveston. Funeral services are 10:00am Thursday March 18, 2021 at St. Mary's Cathedral Basilica. Burial will follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Dickinson under the direction of Carnes Brothers Funeral Home. The family will receive visitors at the funeral home Wednesday from 5:00pm until 8:00pm where a Prayer Vigil will be held at 6:30pm.
Mr. Salinas was born January 9, 1929 in Mercedes, Texas to Jesus and Maria Castenada Salinas. He was the Salutatorian graduate of Mercedes High School. After high school he went on to Pan American College where he earned his associate degree. After moving to Galveston he married his wife of 65 years, Lily Rodriguez Salinas. He became employed at American National Insurance Company in the Computer department where he retired after more than 35 years of service. Mr. Salinas was a very religious man who loved his God and his family. He was a humble and kindhearted man who put the needs of others first. He was a tender man who enjoyed the simple things in life. He and his wife are longtime members of St. Mary's Cathedral where he enjoyed singing and worshipping the Lord Jesus Christ. He was a movie buff and enjoyed studying the weather in his spare time.
Preceded in death by his son Gilbert Salinas, Jr. and a brother Salvador Salinas; survivors include his loving wife of 65 years Lily Rodriguez Salinas of Galveston; daughters Eva Rojas and husband Eliu Rojas, Sr. of League City, Carla Franklin and husband Tim of Galveston and Barbara Salinas of Galveston; son Mark A. Salinas and wife Jennifer Johnson of Houston; brother Jose Gonzalez of Mercedes, Texas; grandchildren Eliu Rojas, Jr. and Lisa Michelle Salinas; great grandchild Lily Rojas; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
