Gloria D. Thompson Haggerty age 88 of Galveston, Texas died peacefully on June 21, 2024, at Cascades Nursing Facility in Galveston. She was born October 1, 1935, in Galveston, Texas to Mr. and Mrs. Felix Thompson. She attended St. Paul Methodist Church during her early  days and later attended Wesley Tabernacle United Methodist Church until her health began to fail her. Gloria attended Galveston Schools and worked as a teacher aide for the Palm Terrace Early Childhood Center and a Private Duty Home Health Aide.

Gloria is preceded in death by her parents, Felix and Opal Thompson, aunts, uncles and cousins. Gloria is survived by her daughters, Sharon Johnson (James) and Karen Haggerty. Grandchildren, Brandon Washington, Monaquishia Leigh, Jovaunia Saldana (Devin), Samuel Smith (Kahla) and Sedrick Smith; 12 great grandchildren, aunts, Rosa Allen and Emma Thompson, nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family would like to thank the staff of Cascades Nursing Facility, Hospice Care and her dedicated roommate Ms. Cathy Miller for all of your compassionate care and concern.

The viewing will begin at 9:00 am and following will be the Funeral Service at 11:00am on Monday, July 1, 2024 at Carnes Brothers Funeral Home in Galveston, TX with Pastor Robert E. Woodard III officiating. Burial will follow at Lakeview Cemetery in Galveston.  Prayers and Flowers are welcome.

A repass will be held following the graveside service at Compton Memorial Church of God in Christ 2628 Ave H Galveston, Texas 77550.
