Gregorio "Greg"
Henry Gonzales, Jr.
Jan 12, 1959 — Aug 16, 2025
Galveston
Gregorio Gonzales, 66, born January 12, 1959, in Galveston, Texas, passed away August 16, 2025 surrounded by loved ones.
Greg honorably served the United States Marine Corps in 1980. He was a proud United States Marine Corps veteran and lived by the phrase, "Once a Marine, always a Marine." Greg also served the Galveston-Houston Archdiocese for 15+ years, at Calvary Cemetery in Galveston, Texas, working as a groundskeeper. Before retiring, Greg worked at Home Depot and he also worked at Schlitterbahn water park as a maintenance operator.
Greg loved adventure and loved to live life. Greg's determination to live life to the fullest and not to let life and circumstances deter or define him was proven when he became an amputee in 2022 and then a double amputee in 2024. He strived and relearned how to walk and drive, he got a license and bought a moped. Greg loved his independence and never let his disability stop or discourage him from anything. He took honor in being able to do things on his own. He liked going to the movies and "handling business" on his own.
Greg was a devoted father to his one and only daughter, Kandis Gonzales McGowan. He enjoyed spending time with her while shopping, going on adventures and eating at new restaurants. Greg's motto was "Shop til you drop." He was a proud girl dad and looked forward to their outings. When asked what made him most proud, his response was his daughter.
Greg is preceded in death by his mother and father, Teresa and Gregorio Sr; brother, Gabriel Gonzales; brother, Joe Gonzales; sister, Gloria Vasquez;
Survivors include his wife, Frances Gonzales; daughter, Kandis McGowan (Jeremy); son, Steven; daughter, Melissa Silva; brothers, Gilbert (Xochitl), Ricky (Ursula), Johnny (Anna), Alex (Christina); God daughter, Mariselda Vasquez; God son Anthony Calderon and numerous nieces and nephews and family and friends; pets Charlie Cat and Vixen.
