Gustavo Vega Sr.
(November 18, 1953 – June 28, 2026)

Gustavo Vega Sr., of Galveston, Texas, passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends at his residence on Sunday, June 28, 2026, at the age of 72.

Visitation will be held at Carnes Brothers Funeral Home, 1201 Tremont Street, Galveston, Texas, on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., with a Celebration of Life service at 7:00 p.m.

A Funeral Procession will depart from Carnes Brothers Funeral Home at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 2, 2026, opening with a brief prayer, followed by Burial at Calvary Catholic Cemetery, 2506 65th St. Galveston Texas.

Gustavo was born on November 18th, 1953, in Rio Bravo, Tamaulipas, Mexico, to Gustavo Vega and Aurora Tello. He was a man who found great joy in caring for others, especially through his love of cooking. Whether preparing a family meal or gathering loved ones around the table, Gustavo expressed his love through food. Gustavo enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren as much as he could. His home shared with Gloria was always filled with warmth, laughter, and unforgettable memories.

Above all, Gustavo was a devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather, caring brother, and loyal friend. He cherished every moment spent with his family and leaves behind a legacy of love, generosity, and unwavering dedication to those he held dear. He was also a faithful member of New Life Fellowship in Galveston, Texas.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Gloria Vega; his children and their spouses, Gustavo Vega Jr. and Holly, Marcos Vega and Evelyn, David Vega and Norma, and Elizabeth Vega Graves and Herbert; his 10 cherished grandchildren, Emily, Peyton, Keanna "Keke", Sebastian, Ezekiel "Zeke", Jonathan, Rubi, Alexander, Gloria "Rory",  Malakai; his siblings, Ignacio, Griselda, Leopoldo, Blanca, Concepción, Daniel, Patricia, Martha; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and many dear friends and neighbors.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Gustavo Vega and Aurora Tello.

Gustavo's kindness, strength, generosity, and unwavering love for his family will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Gustavo Vega Sr., residente de Galveston, Texas, falleció pacíficamente rodeado de familiares y amigos en su hogar el domingo 28 de junio de 2026, a la edad de 72 años.

El velorio se llevará a cabo en la funeraria Carnes Brothers Funeral Home, ubicada en 1201 Tremont Street, Galveston, Texas, el miércoles 1 de julio de 2026, de 5:00 p. m. a 9:00 p. m., con un servicio de celebración de vida a las 7:00 p. m.

El cortejo fúnebre partirá de Carnes Brothers Funeral Home a las 10:00 a. m. del jueves 2 de julio de 2026, comenzando con una breve oración, seguido del sepelio en el cementerio católico Calvary Catholic Cemetery, ubicado en 2506 65th St., Galveston, Texas.

Gustavo nació el 18 de noviembre de 1953 en Río Bravo, Tamaulipas, México, hijo de Gustavo Vega y Aurora Tello. Era un hombre que encontraba gran alegría en cuidar de los demás, especialmente a través de su amor por la cocina. Ya fuera preparando una comida familiar o reuniendo a sus seres queridos alrededor de la mesa, Gustavo expresaba su amor mediante la comida. Disfrutaba pasar todo el tiempo posible con sus hijos y nietos. El hogar que compartía con Gloria siempre estaba lleno de calidez, risas y recuerdos inolvidables.

Ante todo, Gustavo fue un esposo devoto, un padre amoroso, un abuelo orgulloso, un hermano atento y un amigo leal. Valoraba cada momento junto a su familia y deja un legado de amor, generosidad y una dedicación inquebrantable hacia sus seres queridos. También fue un miembro fiel de la congregación New Life Fellowship en Galveston, Texas.

Le sobreviven su amada esposa durante 50 años, Gloria Vega; sus hijos y sus respectivos cónyuges: Gustavo Vega Jr. y Holly, Marcos Vega y Evelyn, David Vega y Norma, y Elizabeth Vega Graves y Herbert; sus 10 queridos nietos: Emily, Peyton, Keanna "Keke", Sebastian, Ezekiel "Zeke", Jonathan, Rubi, Alexander, Gloria "Rory" y Malakai; y sus hermanos: Ignacio, Griselda, Leopoldo, Blanca, Concepción, Daniel, Patricia y Martha. así como numerosos sobrinos, sobrinas, familiares y muchos amigos y vecinos queridos.

Le precedieron en la muerte sus padres, Gustavo Vega y Aurora Tello.

La amabilidad, fortaleza, generosidad y el amor inquebrantable de Gustavo hacia su familia serán profundamente extrañados y recordados para siempre por todos aquellos que tuvieron el privilegio de conocerlo.
