Jackie "JJ" Jean `Woolley

May 11, 1935 - January 25, 2021

Jackie Jean (JJ) Woolley passed away January 25, 2021, in Georgetown, Texas, after a long and hard-fought battle with several illnesses. Jackie was an educator, author, missionary, and mother. She was very well-loved and will be missed.

Born in 1935 in the drought-bitten farmlands of North Texas, she was the daughter of Cecil Clyde Woolley and Oza Emma (Gantt) Woolley. As the youngest of four sisters in a hard-working sharecropper family, Jackie told us she was always striving to keep up and make her voice heard.

Jackie graduated from Vernon High School at the age of sixteen and received her BA degree from Abilene Christian College in 1954. She was a pioneering member of a team of Christian missionaries to Sao Paulo, Brazil in 1960-63. On her return to the States, Jackie taught kindergarten and elementary school students while raising two young sons with her husband Robert Humphries.

By 1968, Jackie was teaching high school and college students at Columbia Christian College in Portland, Oregon, and then College of the Mainland near Houston, Texas. Jackie received her MFA in Creative Writing from the University of Houston in 1979.

During the 1980s and 90s, Jackie helped managed a family business with Donald Robinson, and wrote innumerable engineering reports and technical documents. Writing was one of her greatest joys, and over the years she published many articles, manuscripts, fiction and non-fiction books, and newsletters.

Her final years were spent enjoying life in the company of her husband Robert Blackshear – writing, traveling, square-dancing, and attending church services in Round Rock and Georgetown, Texas.

Jackie is now in the arms of Jesus and enjoying catching-up with many friends and family members who have preceded her in death. Besides the gentlemen mentioned above, she is survived in this life by her immediate family members: her son Kirk Humphries, his wife Jodie and their children Keira and Aidan, of Austin Texas; her son Kyle Humphries, and his wife Debra Spellings, of Hutto Texas; and her niece Tracey Miller, of The Colony Texas.

Many others will remember her charm, grace, beauty, and intelligence. She made her voice heard, and we are all better for it.
