Jefferson Wise Hammett, Jr. age 88 of Galveston passed away Sunday, March 24, 2024 peacefully at his home in Galveston. Funeral services with visitation are 11:00am Saturday, March 30, 2024 at Carnes Brothers Funeral Home.

Jefferson Wise Hammett Jr. was born October 18, 1935 in Miami Florida to Jefferson Wise Hammett Sr. and Nadine Marconette Hammett. He moved from Florida to Texas in 1948 attended High Schools in Midland TX. and Lake Worth High in Ft. Worth TX.

Jeff served in the United States Marine Corps from 1953 to 1956 and was a veteran of the Korean War. Upon discharge he became a resident of Arlington Texas where he lived for twenty-three years, working for the U.S. postal service, L.T.V. Corporation and Bell Helicopter Corp. In 1979 Jeff moved to the Freeport and Surfside Beach area where he lived and worked for U.S. contractors until his retirement in 2000, at which time Jeff moved to Galveston Texas where he lived with his husband Tony until his death.

Preceded in death by his parents and sisters Patricia Wolf and Gloria Hammett, daughter in law Kathryn Samantha Hammett; Jeff is survived by his husband Tony of Galveston Texas; Three sons Vincent Wayne Hammett and wife Cecilia of Arlington Texas, Travis Lee Hammett and wife Mary Ellen of Arlington Texas, and Jeffery Lynn Hammett of Lockhart, Texas; grandchildren Dashiell Hammett , Dixie Triggs and husband Cayden,  Trevor Hammett and wife Meagan, Brittany Miera and husband Geoffrey, Morgan Moore and husband Lee, Taylor Hammett, Matthew Hammett and Jesse Hammett; 13 great grandchildren; and some terrific friends.  Jeff is also survived by Tony's family Bobby and Teresa Jones, Robert and Penny Barrera, Cindy Shelton, Erasmo Barrera, Jr., Celia Barrera and Susan Widmer, nieces, Marinea and Josh West, Lilly and Oscar Montelongo, Victoria Barrera; nephew Erasmo Barrera, III and 7 great nieces.
