Jerry Benavides Sr., 65, passed from this life on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, after a strong and courageous battle with lung cancer. Visitation will be held from 5:00-8:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 12, 2025, at Carnes Brothers Funeral Home in Galveston. A devotional service will also be held Wednesday, November 12, 2025, at 6:00 PM at the funeral home with Rev. Allen Martin. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, November 13, 2025, with Josh Pant officiating. Graveside services will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Galveston, Texas.
Mr. Benavides was born February 12, 1960, in Galveston, Texas, to Juan & Maria Bernal Benavides, Sr. He worked for Food King, Arlan's Market, and Dienst/Faust Distributing for almost 20 years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Councils 787 and 12500 for many years. He was an avid sports fan and loved watching Dallas Cowboys, Houston Astros, & Houston Rockets every chance he got, he loved dancing with his wife and grandchildren and was always the life of the party, he was always passionate about helping others in need, and he stopped working when his first grandchild Peyton was born in 2009 so she could be in "Popo daycare" which continued for his final grandchild.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Juan Sr. & Maria Bernal Benavides; brothers: Felix, Manuel, Juan Jr., Ernest, Larry, and Eddie; Sisters: Alice and Magdalena; Mother-in-law Mary Cecile Helm. He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years Veronica Elaine Benavides (Helm); sons Jerry Benavides, Jr. and Robert Benavides; daughter Kimberley Reynolds and favorite son-in-law Steven; brothers Pete, Alexander (Isabel), Andrew, David (Tillie), and Joe; sisters Rosemary (Mike), Cristina (Faustino), and Corrine (Donald). His six grandchildren Peyton Reynolds, Nathan Benavides, Abigail Reynolds, Jerry Benavides III, Megyn Benavides, and Lyanna Benavides; Sister-in-law Carmela Thompson (Danny); brothers-in-law, Steven Thompson (Minie); Max Helm and Chuck Helm (Marina); numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and many friends.
Pallbearers will be Jerry Benavides Jr., Robert Benavides, Steven Reynolds, Andrew Benavides, David Benavides Sr., David Sanchez Sr., John Ovalle, & Michael Ovalle. Honorary Pallbearers are Alex Benavides, Joe Benavides, Raymond Medina, Joe Chendo Gandara, Richard Sanchez, Nathan Benavides, and Jerry Benavides III.
The family would like to express thanks to Jerry's physician team at Texas Oncology and the Hospice Care Team of Texas City, Texas especially his head nurse Lynn Bogard for her compassionate and outstanding care.
