Jody Louise Davis McDermott
October 4, 1950 – November 24, 2024

Jody Louise Davis McDermott was born to Daniel Paul Davis and Juanita Ellis Davis on October 4, 1950, in Ames, Iowa. She was the third of four girls (Carolyn, Nancy and Kathy).  Her parents loved to travel, and the girls enjoyed many family vacations driving across the USA. She moved to Houston, Texas where she attended Red Elementary and Pershing Junior High School. Her family later moved to Long Island, New York where she graduated from Bay Shore High School in 1968. She believed in God's faithfulness and built a unique and inspiring life following His word.

She attended Orange County Community College where she met her future husband, John McDermott. After marriage, she lived in Middletown, NY for eight years, working as a waitress and spending time with the McDermott family who loved her dearly. She had her son, Shane McDermott in 1976 and shortly after had her daughter, Lindsay Bawduniak in 1977. She was a loving and devoted mother who gave everything she had to her children.

After moving back to Houston, Texas in 1978, she worked as a leasing manager for the Etto Corporation. She loved playing cards, hosting parties and spending time with her extended family. Her family attended Church of Christ in Cypress for many years where she served in the Sunday school, before moving once again. In 1989, she moved with her kids to Roosevelt Island in New York City. She started as a closet designer with California Closets and then moved on to become the leasing manager of The Sheffield on 57th Street. She attended Times Square Church where she became very involved with their outreach program, serving in the soup kitchen as often as she could. She loved Broadway shows and street markets. You could often find her enjoying New York co ee and Italian cookies by the East River. After obtaining her Real Estate Broker's License in 1994, she worked with DJ Knight Ltd. and Goodstein Realty where she was a top selling
realtor in upper Manhattan.

She loved New York but also loved to travel across the country by car. She would take long road trips to South Carolina and California, stopping at the Smokey Mountains and Grand Canyon along the way. These were God's gifts to us, and she found peace in their beauty. She would also visit her kids and grandkids in Texas as often as she could. She was an incredible grandmother who spent hours playing games and creating projects for her grandkids. She wasn't just loving; she was so much fun. She caught beads with them at the Mardi Gras parades in Galveston and chased them through Cameron Park Zoo. She treasured all six of them more than anything and they will always remember her laughter.
After moving back to Texas, she spent her time with family and friends. She loved afternoons with her girlfriends and played cards every Sunday. She read and studied the Bible daily. She enjoyed worship at The Woodlands Methodist Church with her friends on Wednesdays. She held onto her faith and loved Jesus with all her heart. She was surrounded by so much love and of course laughter.

She died peacefully at her home in the Woodlands on November 24, 2024. She will be very missed by those she has left behind, including her children Shane & Lindsay, her son-in law John Bawduniak and her grandchildren, Sophia Bawduniak, Sadie Bawduniak, Hudson Bawduniak, Johnnie Bawduniak, Davis McDermott & Connor McDermott.
