Joe Louis Garza, age 60, passed away at his residence Sunday, August 18, 2024, in Galveston, Texas after a lengthy illness.  Joe was born on June 23, 1964 in Galveston, the youngest of 6 children. He graduated from Ball High School and attended Galveston College. Joe worked several jobs, but medically retired from Casa del Mar with over 15 years of service. He attended St. Patrick's Catholic Church and later the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.  As an avid sports fan, Joe enjoyed following his beloved San Francisco 49ers, NBA sports and playing basketball with fellow community friends. His greatest pleasure was sitting on the porch and barbecuing in the company of his family and friends and listening to 70s Rock, 80s and 90s hits as well as Tejano music. He thoroughly enjoyed detailing his Chevy truck, his pride and joy.  He loved delighting in an ice cold Dr. Pepper and a flavorful steak cooked to perfection with spaghetti and of course his Happy Buddha dining.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Jesus O. "Jesse" Garza and Maria Margarita Garza; brother Arthur Garza; and infant sister, Blanca Estela Garza. He is survived by his siblings, Mary Melendez, Jesse Garza, Jr., David Garza and Maria "Chita" Gomez.

The family would like to thank Joe's friends, Chris Uriegas, Susan Heczman Balli, Carr Lynn Smith, Rick Trevino; and caregivers Iris Lozano and Maria Ramos for helping him through his trying times.

A memorial service honoring his life will be held 2:00pm Saturday, August 31, 2024, at Carnes Brothers Funeral Home located at 1201 23rd Street, Galveston, TX.  Friends and family are invited to join us in celebrating his life.
