GALVESTON John William Williams, Jr. 72, of Galveston, Texas passed away peacefully at his residence on January 13, 2024. He was born August 11, 1951 in Galveston to John William Williams, Sr. and Hazel Beard Williams.

John was a lifelong resident of Galveston and attended Galveston schools. He worked in the construction business his entire life, and was involved in many construction projects in Galveston County. He worked as Director of Maintenance for the Galveston Housing Authority for 36 years.

John's greatest love was his family. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and shared these passions with his children and grandchildren. He loved the annual summer vacations with his grandchildren. He was a devoted husband, father, paw paw and best friend.

John is preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Toni Ann Gonzales. He is survived by his loving wife Mary of 51 years, daughter Leslie Fernandez and husband Ozzie of Baton Rouge, and son Jason Williams of Galveston, grandchildren Chase Fernandez, Laney Fernandez, Reid Fernandez and Matthew Williams, sisters Johnnie Hamilton, Cookie Fee (Steve), Ginger Moore (Ronnie) and brother Charles Williams (Tracy) of Santa Fe.

The family is honoring John's wishes to have no formal service. A Celebration of Life will occur with details to be announced. We would like to thank family, friends, Anchor Hospice and UTMB staff.

John had a love of animals. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting memorial contributions in John's memory be sent to Galveston Island Humane Society.
