Juan Baigen, 88, of Galveston, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 8, 2025, surrounded by his family at his home in Galveston.
He was born on November 13, 1936, to Juan and Guadalupe Baigen in Galveston, Texas, and was a proud BOI (Born on the Island). He was a lifelong resident of Galveston Island.

Juan served as a Sergeant in the United States Army. He was drafted in August 1962 and served until October 1966, sharing many stories about his time stationed in Korea.

He married Clotilde (Tilde) Baigen on May 3, 1959, and together they raised three children: Miguel, Juan (Johnny), and Cynthia. Juan and Tilde celebrated 66 years of marriage.

He worked as a pipefitter and retired from Union Carbide.
Juan was an avid fisherman, with flounder being his favorite catch. He enjoyed woodworking and generously shared his creations. He crafted rocking horses for his grandchildren, as well as, pens, tissue boxes, chairs, and nightlights. He was also a devoted Dallas Cowboys fan. He was a Charter Member of LULAC Council 151 and was inducted into the Hispanic Heritage Hall of Fame in 1993. Known as a skilled handyman, he could fix nearly anything around the house.

Juan is survived by his wife, Clotilde (Tilde) Baigen; son Miguel Baigen; son Juan (Johnny) Baigen, Jr; daughter Cynthia Baigen Felter (Gene); granddaughter Koren Baigen; granddaughter Monica Baigen Olsen (Collin); grandson Eugene (Geno) Felter III; and grandson Julian Felter; sisters, Julia Kupinski, Guadalupe Ortiz and Virginia Marquez.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Juan and Guadalupe Baigen, and his brothers, Miguel Baigen and Louis Baigen.
The family will receive visitors at Carnes Brothers Funeral Home on Friday, November 14, 2025, from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM, with a rosary recited at 6:30 PM.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, November 15, 2025, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Galveston. Burial with military honors will follow at Lakeview Cemetery in Galveston.
Pallbearers will be Eugene (Geno) Felter III, Albert Ortiz III, Leo Moreno, Ricky Serrato, Collin Olsen, and Israel Garza.
