On Friday evening, January 17, 2025, Juanita Elena García Campos, known by friends and family as "Helen," loving wife, mother of three children, and grandmother of five grandchildren, passed away at the age of 74. Funeral Services are 10:00am Monday, January 27, 2025, at Carnes Brothers Funeral Home in Galveston. Burial will follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Galveston. The family will receive visitors at the funeral home on Sunday from 5:00pm until 8:00pm where a rosary will be recited at 6:30pm.

Helen was born February 13, 1950, on Galveston Island to Clemente J. García, Sr. and Catalina De La Rosa García. She was a 1969 graduate of Ball High School. After beginning her career at the UTMB Medical Library and then being a stay-at-home mother, she worked at the circulation desk of the Rosenberg Library for 30 years until her retirement in 2015. Her presence at the circulation desk made her the face of the Rosenberg Library for many years. She was an active member of the Galveston community and a faithful Catholic her entire life, serving as a parishioner of St. Patrick's Church in Galveston.

Helen was a trusted, devoted, and loving wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, cousin, aunt, godmother, and friend who valued spending time with those she loved. Her lifelong passions included reading, quilting, and dancing. In her last years battling cancer she was especially grateful for the help and support of her cousin Helen Delores Cisneros Martinez.

Helen was preceded in death by her husband Francisco Javier Campos, Sr.; her parents Clemente, Sr. and Catalina García; a sister Catalina García; and her brothers Carlos G. García, Sr. and Clemente J. García, Jr. She is survived by her son Sergio Jeff Campos of Watertown, Massachusetts; her son Francisco Javier Campos, Jr. and his wife Denise of Houston, Texas; her daughter Melissa Berenice Escobedo and husband Matthew of Deer Park, Texas; grandchildren Desmond Cisco Campos, Alejandro Dario Campos, Fabiola Mercedes Campos, Benjamin Samuel Campos, and Max Elias Escobedo; sisters Frances Rodriguez and husband Oscar of Texas City, Texas and JoAnn Peña of Galveston, Texas; brothers Jose A. García and Michael A. García and wife Debbie all of Galveston, Texas; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
