Juanita Mejia, age 102, of Galveston, Texas, peacefully departed this world on February 18, 2025, in the comfort of her home. Funeral Mass is 9:30am Friday, February 28, 2025 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Galveston under the direction of Carnes Brothers Funeral Home. The family will receive visitors at the funeral home on Thursday from 5:00pm until 8:00pm where a rosary will be recited at 6:30pm.

Her passing leaves a profound void in the hearts of her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Juanita's legacy of love, unwavering dedication, and boundless compassion will continue to inspire and guide all who were fortunate enough to know her.

Born in Hidalgo, Texas, Juanita made Galveston her home, where she raised her family and created a life full of love and joy. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Louis Mejia Sr., with whom she shared many cherished years. Together, Juanita and Louis were successful business owners and shared a deep love for music and dancing, which enriched their lives.

Her Catholic faith was a central part of Juanita's life. She faithfully prayed a daily rosary for her family, friends, and loved ones, offering her constant prayers and support. Known for her generosity and kindness, Juanita was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need, leaving a lasting impression on all who encountered her.

She will be deeply missed by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and all who loved her. Her love for her family was endless, and her ability to make everyone feel special will live on in the hearts of those she leaves behind.

Juanita is survived by her children: Jesse Barrera and his wife Theresa, Louis Mejia Jr. (and the late Cindy Mejia), Andrew Mejia (and the late Dawn Mejia), Mary Piérce, Olga Tabares (and the late Joe Tabares), Dorothy Alvarez (and the late Ramon Alvarez), Annie Wells, Juan Alviar, and Maria Abarca, also surviving is Brenda Guerra and husband Gil. She is also preceded in death by her children: Anita and her husband Lazaro Bernal, Mary Jane and her husband Benny Sandino, and Emily and her husband Conrad Bautista.

As we celebrate her remarkable life, we take comfort in knowing her legacy of love, faith, and family will continue to inspire all who were blessed to have known her. May she rest in peace, and may her memory forever be a blessing to all who loved her.
