KATHLEEN JILL STOKES

5.11.1927 - 8.19.2021

Kathleen Jill Elliott Clark Stokes lived a beautiful, loving, happy, adventurous full life making her transition and completion with her family and friends at age of 94 years.  She was a vivacious, zesty, fun, very social person who loved people and was beautiful inside and out plus intelligent.  Jill was born May 11, 1927 at Great Haywood, England.  She graduated from an exclusive private girls' school with top honors . She became a typist for the Admiralty, typing in secret code substituting words such as cups, saucers and cutlery during WWII in Bath, England.  Jill met Carl A. Clark while he was stationed in Bath, they soon married and settled in Texas.

Carl graduated from Rice University with a Civil Engineering degree and designed beach houses and resort areas at Surfside Beach.  Jill worked at the Freeport Chamber of Commerce organizing the first of two Beauty Contests.  Carl and Jill raised their three children Judith, Elliott and Andrew, now deceased.  As Carl designed beach houses and continued to purchase land, Jill earned her Real Estate License.

Because of her charm and personality, Jill started working for the Personnel Department at Herman Hospital's emergency branch.  This led to a move to Galveston and becoming Personnel Director at a retirement home where she had her final residence in The Meridian Retirement Home.  Jill was also Personnel Director for the Galvez Hotel and later the Tremont House.

In her seventies, Jill moved back to Bath, England. She married a fun loving, gentleman and old family friend, Alfred Stokes.  She returned to Galveston, Texas a couple of years after his death.

Jill is preceded in death by her parents Kathleen and Frederick Elliott, her loving son, Andrew Clark, husband of many years Carl Clark, and her devoted husband Alfred Stokes.

Jill is survived by her daughter Judith Steelhammer (Bob) son Elliott Clark (Lisa) Grandsons Eli Clark (Annie) Adam Clark (Stefanie) great grandchildren Easton, Everett, Cannon, and Audrey, sister Mary Hobbs Langford, brother Tim Elliott (Deane), numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, special niece, Esther Kelly and family, and special friend Jeanie Vieth, special friends Michelle, Madison and Meredith Miller, and numerous close friends both here and in England, all of whom will cherish memories of her wit, her optimism, and her love.

If you knew Jill, she gave you a piece of her heart, you had lots of fun, and received good advice. Jill's special gifts were listening and acknowledging YOU!  Her favorite song was "Life is a Bowl of Cherries."  Jill will be greatly missed.

Our last goodbyes will take place at Carnes Brothers Funeral Home in Galveston Saturday, September 25 ^th at 2 PM.
