Kizzie Shawnta Norwood (Grant), aged 47, passed away on July 15, 2026, in Galveston, Texas. Born on November 9, 1978, in Galveston, Kizzie spent her life deeply connected to the community where she was raised.
A proud graduate of Ball High School, Kizzie built a diverse and accomplished career. She worked at the Rosenberg Library, sharing her love for knowledge and community engagement. Her leadership skills shone as a manager at Dillard's and Palais Royal, and she later served as a supervisor at Western Finance. Through her professional endeavors, Kizzie left a lasting impression on colleagues and customers alike. She also was very dedicated to the Lord's work. Especially to the youth at Sunlight missionary Baptist church and later at St. John missionary Baptist church.
Kizzie's family was the cornerstone of her life. She is survived by her loving and devoted mother, Della Brooks; her father, Albert Washington; and her brothers, Joe Brooks III and Deshawn Tipps; her sisters, Dominique Brooks and Alberta Washington. She was a devoted mother to her children: Raymone Norwood Jr, Katelynn Norwood, Darius Guilry, and Naomi Brown. Her legacy continues through her beloved granddaughter, Rose Forest.
Kizzie was preceding in death by her husband, Ramone Norwood Sr; her stepfather, Joe Brooks Jr; her grandpas, Milton Grant Jr and James Washington Sr; her grandmas, Viola Elias Grant and Rev. Joannie Mae Washington; her brother, Rodney Tipps; her uncles, James Grant Sr, Gerome Grant, and Arthur Washington.
Kizzie faced cancer with remarkable strength and resilience. A true fighter through and through, she inspired those around her with her courage and determination.
May Kizzie Shawnta Norwood's memory serves as a source of comfort and inspiration to all who were fortunate enough to know her. A Funeral Service will be held on August 1, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Carnes brothers' funeral home 1201 23rd street Rear
