Obituary

Jayne (Turner) Davis, affectionately known as Janie, Mama, Mama J, and Grandmother, passed away peacefully on December 18, 2023, in Galveston, TX, at the age of 83. Jayne led a life filled with personal adventures and diverse experiences. Born on January 17, 1940, in Beaumont, TX, to William Hardee Turner and Marvis Summers Turner, Jayne had an unbreakable bond with her brother, Hardee Turner, whom she adoringly referred to as her 'baby brother.' After graduating from Beaumont High in 1957, she pursued higher education at Southern Methodist University. Jayne married the love of her life Lee Davis, on April 30, 1973 and that was just the beginning of an extraordinary chapter. Together, they raised three wonderful children: Justin, Holly, and Angie. Jayne worked for Nations Bank, retiring in the spring of 1994. Following her retirement, she and her husband, Homer Lee Davis, sailed the Bahamas together, embracing a life filled with new adventures. After sailing the Bahamas they settled in Galveston but never let the grass grow under their feet. Known for her love of travel, Jayne explored the world, especially finding joy in cruises, fearlessly setting sail even during hurricanes. In their retirement, Jayne and Lee became part of the Carnival Cruise Line team, always ready with their suitcases in hand in case an open cabin called for an impromptu cruise adventure. Beyond her travels, Jayne's commitment to her faith was unwavering. A devoted member of Grace Episcopal Church, she actively participated in its outreach programs and spent countless hours volunteering within the church. Regardless of the location, she actively pursued and found comfort in her faith, actively seeking out churches wherever her journeys led her. Jayne's legacy lives on through her loving husband, children Justin Witty and wife Danitta, Holly Gear and late husband Randy, Angie Cockings and late husband Bradley: grandchildren, Kristin Hampton and husband Aaron, Bailey Rogers and husband Caleb, Rylea Cole, Luke Witty and wife Brennan, Reagan Cole, and great-grandchildren Gavin, Jillian, Everly, Watson Rogers, Grayson and Hudson Hampton, and Lanston Witty. Services will be held 1:00pm Friday December 22, 2023 at Grace Episcopal Church | 1115 36th Street Galveston, TX  77550. Her memory will forever be cherished by her family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to know her.
