Lily Ann Salinas age 93 of Galveston died Friday January 12, 2024 at Jennie Sealy Hospital in Galveston, surrounded by her loving family. Funeral services are 10:00am Friday January 19, 2024 at St. Mary's Cathedral Basilica. Burial will follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Dickinson under the direction of Carnes Brothers Funeral Home. The family will receive visitors at the funeral home Thursday from 5:00pm until 8:00pm where a Prayer Vigil will be held at 6:30pm.

Mrs. Salinas was born September 2, 1930 in Austin, Texas to Mr. Florenzo J. Rodriguez and Catherina Torres Rodriguez. Her parents died when she was a small child, and she was raised by the Sisters of Charity of St. Mary's in Galveston. After her time at St. Mary's, she went on to business school to learn transcription and eventually went to work at St. Mary's Hospital where she worked in the Pharmacy and then moved to Medical Records. Later after raising her 5 children, she returned to St. Mary's Hospital where she went back and worked in Medical Records. She went on to earn her GED and in 1994 she earned an Associate Degree at Galveston College. She dedicated her life to her family and was married for 65 years to Gilbert Salinas, Sr. Lily was a very religious woman who loved her God and her family. She was a courageous, humble and kindhearted woman who put the needs of others first.  She was a tender woman who enjoyed the simple things in life. She and her husband were longtime members of St. Mary's Cathedral where they enjoyed singing in the choir and worshipping the Lord Jesus Christ. She always had an interest in Political Science and was a loyal and lifelong Democrat. She loved her grandchildren and donated her time and resources to multiple charities and causes. She was an advocate for seniors' rights and the care of the elderly. She loved gardening and listening to her favorite classical music.

Preceded in death by husband Gilbert Salinas, Sr., her son Gilbert Salinas, Jr. her sisters Eloisa Rodriguez and Susie Salinas, and a brother Frank Rodriguez; survivors include; daughters Eva Rojas and husband Eliu Rojas, Sr. of League City, Carla Franklin and husband Tim Franklin of Galveston and Barbara Salinas of Galveston; son Mark Salinas and wife Jennifer Johnson of Houston; grandchildren Eliu Rojas, Jr. and Lisa Salinas; great grandchildren Lily Rojas and Estella Olivarez; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
