In Loving Memory of Loretta Rose Sheridan

August 22, 1935 – June 10, 2026

Loretta Rose Sheridan, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, animal rescuer, and lifelong Galveston resident, passed away peacefully on June 10, 2026, at the age of 90 at Houston Memorial Hermann Hospital Southeast.

Funeral services are 11:00am Thursday, June 18, 2026, at Carnes Brothers Funeral Home with visitation to begin at 10:00am. Burial will follow at the Serbian Orthodox Cemetery in Galveston

Born on August 22, 1935, in Galveston, Texas, Loretta was the eldest of four children born to Rose Krivokopich Wilcox and Charles William Wilcox. She was raised alongside her three younger siblings and learned early in life the strength, resilience, and determination that would define her character for decades to come.

She was a devoted mother whose love knew no boundaries. She believed that family was built through love, compassion, and commitment, and she gave all three abundantly. She was also a mother to many children who needed a caring adult to give guidance and care throughout their lives and food and shelter in times of need.

For nearly 30 years, Loretta was a familiar and cherished presence at the Galveston Walmart. Many knew her from the women's fitting room, while countless others recognized her voice as the store's switchboard operator. Generations of customers and coworkers came to know her kindness, patience, and friendly spirit. If you called Walmart, chances are you knew Loretta's voice before you knew her name.

Loretta's compassion extended far beyond people. She had a lifelong love for animals and spent years rescuing, rehabilitating, and caring for those in need. There was rarely a time when she didn't have a beloved dog resting nearby. Injured strays, abandoned pets, frightened kittens, she welcomed them all with the same gentle care and unconditional love. She saw value in every life and never turned away a creature in need.

Anyone who knew Loretta also knew of her fondness for Betty Boop. Her collection brought her great joy and reflected the playful spirit she carried throughout her life. Family and friends could always count on finding a Betty Boop treasure somewhere in her home, alongside photos of those she loved and the animals she had rescued.

Despite the hardships she endured, Loretta never allowed life's difficulties to harden her heart. Instead, they deepened her compassion for others. She was a woman of quiet strength, remarkable perseverance, and endless generosity. She gave of herself freely and often placed the needs of others before her own. Her love was not something she spoke about, it was something she lived every day.

Loretta was preceded in death by her parents, Rose Krivokapich Wilcox and Charles William Wilcox; her husband, Jimmy Doyle Sheridan Sr.; her daughter, Cynthia Ann Kiff; her sons, Jimmy "Bubba" Sheridan Jr. and Michael Henry Sheridan; her grandson, Donald Earl McMahan Jr.; and her brothers, Samuel "Buddy" Epperson and Tommy Epperson.

She is survived by her son, Carl Wesley Sheridan; her daughter, Loretta Lynn Sheridan;  Herbert Athey, her sister, Millicent Martinez and husband Francisco; her grandchildren, Tracie Lynn Taylor, Mandy Cannon, Debra Blamble, Stephanie Reed, Ginamarie Comeaux, Michael Sheridan Jr., Heather Sheridan, Jonathan Sheridan, Jennifer McMahan, Joseph Kiff, and Joshua Kiff; numerous great-grandchildren; and many extended family members and friends who will forever cherish her memory.

Though her earthly journey has ended, the love she poured into her family, the lives she touched, and the animals she saved remain as her enduring legacy. Her strength was quiet, her heart was enormous, and her love was unwavering.

She will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever carried in the hearts of all who knew
