Lorna Annette May passed away peacefully at her home in Galveston, Texas, on Wednesday, March 26, 2025. She was born on October 16, 1940, at Portsmouth Naval Hospital to Thomas Lavespere and Mildred Cobb Lavespere.

Lorna spent her early years in Norfolk, Virginia, where she developed a deep love for music through her church community. At the age of 16, her family relocated to Pensacola, Florida. She graduated from Woodham High School in 1958 and briefly attended Pensacola College to study music. Though she left college early, her passion for music remained a constant throughout her life.

She began her professional career as a dental technician before joining Southern Bell as a telephone operator. In 1965, she moved to Atlanta, Georgia, where she advanced through various supervisory roles and later worked with computer systems tracking operator data.

In March 1966, Lorna met Jim May, and they married on November 19 of that same year. Together, they were active members of Ascension Lutheran Church, especially in the children's and music ministries. After relocating to San Antonio, Texas, in 1974, Lorna chose to stay home and later embraced motherhood with the birth of their daughter, Courtney, in 1977.

Lorna's love for music continued through choir participation at Redeemer Lutheran Church. She also worked in the church school cafeteria as a pastry chef. Her involvement in youth bowling led her to become a certified instructor and Youth Director at two bowling centers.

In 1997, Lorna and Jim helped establish the San Antonio Lutheran Chorale. Upon moving to Galveston in 2003, she remained active in church music at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church and served as President of the Elks Auxiliary.

Lorna is survived by her husband of 58 years, Jim; daughter Courtney and husband Jacob; and grandchildren Christian and wife Missy Somerville, Makayla Somerville, and Madison Somerville.

Her memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
