Maria Elena Flores

GALVESTON, TX — Maria Elena Flores, born May 29, 1936 in Raymondville, Texas to Francisco De La Fuente, Sr. and Manuela Ramos, passed away peacefully in her home at the age of 88 on October 23, 2024.

Maria Elena was preceded in death by her son Benito Armando "Benny" Garza, husband Leonelo A. Flores, Jr, brother Franciso De La Fuente Jr. and parents.

She is survived by daughter, Juanita "Janie" Alcala (Dave), son Arturo Garza, Sr., brothers Jesus De La Fuente and Juan De La Fuente, 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Maria Elena worked at UTMB in the laundry department for many years and then became a homemaker for the remainder of her years raising the majority of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Maria Elena's funeral Mass will be celebrated at  10am., on Monday, October 28, 2024 at St. Mary's Cathedral Basilica, 2011 Church Street, Galveston, Texas.Visitation will begin at 9am followed by the Celebration of life Mass. Burial to follow at Calvary Cemetery, Galveston, TX.

Pallbearers will be Pete Lira, Melchor Mendoza, Arturo Garza Jr., Ruben Garza, Roy Rivera III, Richard Garcia III, Ayden Rico. Honorary Pallbearers will be Jesus Garza, Niko Garcia, Landon Reed and Roland Torres Jr.

The family would like to thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers during this time. We would also like to recognize her loving son, Arturo for his endless devotion in caring for his mother throughout her years and her granddaughter, Bianca Garza for the devoted time in being an additional caregiver.
