Obituary

Maria Magdalena Gonzalez passed away peacefully July 11, 2021,  with her loving family at her side.

Magdalena was born May 23, 1929 in Guadalajara Jalisco, Mexico to Jose Ramirez and Juana Gonzalez.  She was a professional seamstress, who truly enjoyed her work. In 1965, she married Paulino Gonzalez and moved to Illinois to raise their family.

In 1971, Magdalena and her husband moved to Galveston with 7 children to be with their older children.  Galveston became her home and she treasured the home her husband and family made for her on Winnie Street.

She was a devoted Catholic and attended Sacred Heart and St. Patrick's Church. She had a deep devotion to our Lady of Guadalupe and the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

In her free time, she enjoyed mariachis, cooking, sewing, and taking care of her family. She was also a proud member of "La Mesa Redonda." She was blessed by numerous friends who became family and close family in Mexico who was separated by distance, but not in heart.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband; Paulino, son; Juan Carlos, son; Bennett Sr., step-daughter; Maria Mendez, and her close siblings.

She is survived by her family Louis (Rafaela), Beatriz (Daniel), Maricela (Brian) Elvira (d. Hector), Estella, Rosanna, Irene (d. Frank), Adriana, and Daughter in Laws; Josephine and Martha, 23 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and 3 great great-grandchildren.

Magdalena's family also wants to extend sincere gratitude to the Geriatric Dept at UTMB, Andrea Wirt MSN RN, and Anchor Hospice for their care.

Services will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Galveston, TX followed by internment at Cavalry Catholic Cemetery.  Visitation begins at 9am, rosary at 10am, Mass to follow.
