Maria Luisa Vela age 85 of Galveston died Wednesday, January 19, 2022 at The Lakes in Texas City. Funeral services are 10:00am Tuesday January 25. 2022 at Carnes Brothers Funeral Home in Galveston. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Galveston. The family will receive visitors at the funeral home on Monday from 5:00pm until 8:00pm where a rosary will be recited at 6:30pm.

Maria was born November 11, 1936 in Jimenez, Tamps., Mexico to Jose Guadalupe Covarrubias, Sr. and Maria Guadalupe Garcia. She was a loving and wonderful wife, mother and grandmother who dedicated her life to caring for her adoring family. She was a wonderful cook and baker, always making sure her family had the best. She was loved and admired by all those who knew and loved her. May she rest with the Angels.

Preceded in death by her parents, husband of 31 years Jose Santana Vela; sister Elena Covarrubias; and a brother Lupe Covarrubias, Jr..; survivors include her daughter Rosa Hinson and husband Charles of League City; sons Jorge Vela of Galveston and Humberto Vela of Galveston; sisters Adela Perez of San Fernando, Mexico and Christina Salgado of Tampico, Mexico; 7 grandchildren Jose, Beto, David, Ruben, Daniel, Kevin and  Faviana; 1 great grandchild; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers are family and friends.
