Maria Elena Rodriguez Villarreal age 95 of Galveston entered into eternal rest on the Wings of Angels Wednesday September 22, 2021 at her residence in Galveston. Funeral Mass is 10:00am Saturday September 25, 2021 at St. Patrick Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Dickinson under the direction of Carnes Brothers Funeral Home. The family will receive visitors from 5:00pm until 8:00pm on Friday at the funeral home where a rosary will be recited at 6:30pm.
Maria was born February 26, 1926 in Galveston to Enrique B. Rodriguez and Carmen Franco Rodriguez. She was a 1943 graduate of Ursuline Academy in Galveston. A member of the Damas of Our Lady of Guadalupe, she was also was a lifetime, faithful, Roman Catholic. She was also a member of Club Xochitl. She loved to dance, gardening, and truly loved her family. She would spend hours on the phone talking with her family in Mexico and all over the country.
Maria is preceded in death by her parents Enrique B. Rodriguez and Carmen Franco Rodriguez; husband Peter M. Villarreal; sister Maria L. Rodriguez; brothers Eduardo, Henry and Raul Ricardo Rodriguez; a son Timothy; and a grandson Javier Piedra. Survivors include daughters Laura Villarreal Hutson and husband Larry of Dallas, Texas and Gina M. Fullen and husband Kenny of Galveston; son Peter H. Villarreal of Galveston; grandchildren Cathy and Brian Hutson, Steve and Amanda Richards; great grandchildren Christian and Payton Labus, and Violet and Ava Richards; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends.
Pallbearers are Larry Hutson, Kenny Fullen, Glen Rodriguez, Erasmo Ruiz, Steven Richards and Salvador Contreras. Honorary pallbearers are Dr. Marshall Bradshaw, Dr. William Bondurant, Michael Rodriguez, Gene Reyes and Joe Tabarraci.
