Obituary

GALVESTON: Melissa Sachtleben Mardis, 53, of Galveston passed away Wednesday, July 6, 2022 at HCA Hospital in Pearland. Funeral services are 6:30 PM Monday, July 11, 2022, at Carnes Brothers Funeral Home in Galveston. Visitation will also be held Monday from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the funeral home.

Melissa was born June 2, 1969, in Galveston to William Shelton "Bill" Sachtleben and Linda Ann Romero Sachtleben. She was a member of the 1987 class of Ball High School. After high school she worked for H.L. & P. and Walter Pye's clothing store while going to college to earn her RN and then worked many jobs in health care which included UTMB Staff Nurse, Mainland Medical Center, Gulf Health Care Center and the Meridian. She was a loving and caring mother even taking on the responsibility of being guardian and raising her late sister's children. She always gave of herself and was there when called upon by her many friends and loved ones. She will be missed by the many people that she touched even though she was only with us a short while, the impact on so many was great. Rest with the angels Melissa until we see you again.

Preceded in death by her father, William "Bill" Sachtleben; sister, Crystal Sachtleben; grandparents, Red and Elsie Romero and Raven and Opal Sachtleben; daughter, Megan Mardis; former husband and father of two of her sons, Daryn Mardis, Sr. and a cousin, Amy Harbrecht. Survivors include her children, Daryn Mardis, Jr., Donovan Mardis, Zeth Elliott and Cameron Carvan; guardian children, Araceli, Savannah and Austin Amaya; grandson, Drayden Mardis; mother, Linda A. Sachtleben (Ronnie Herrin); brother, William S. "Billy" Sachtleben, Jr.; aunts, Patsy Beach and husband Carl, Connie Romero, Donna Ferrer (Harold), Loretta Buddenhagen and husband George, Susie Pace and husband Jimmie; numerous cousins, other relatives and many friends.
