Oliver Jerome
Rentz
Jul 1, 1927 — Jun 11, 2017
Houston
Oliver Jerome Rentz, age 89, was called home, to be with Jesus, his Lord and Savior, and join Nina, his beloved wife of 66 years, on June 11, 2017. The celebration of his life will be at 10 am with visitation at 9 am, on Saturday, June 17, 2017, at the Sagemont Church, with Rev. Emory Gadd and Rev. Rex Forsyth officiating. Burial will follow at the South Park Cemetery, in Pearland, under the direction of Carnes Brothers Funeral Home of Galveston, with military honors.
Jerome was born on July 1, 1927, in Charleston, South Carolina, to Charles Henry and Minnie Etta Rentz. At the age of 17, Jerome met the most beautiful girl, Nina, who became the "love of his life" and they married 6 years later. They moved to Texas in 1950, eventually moving to Houston, where they lived the remainder of their lives. Jerome was a member of Sagemont Church for 45 years, where he faithfully served, living a life devoted to Christ.
Jerome was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and loyal friend. He joined the U.S. Marine Corp when he was 20 years old and proudly served his country. The motto, "Once a Marine, Always a Marine" rang true with him. He was honorably discharged as a U.S. Marine Corp Sergeant. He loved anything that had to do with vehicles of any kind. His favorite job was when he worked on the Greyhound buses, in Houston, TX. He worked for Exxon for over 25 years, when he eventually retired. He lived his life serving others. Never was he too busy to take a call or come to the aid of his wife, or one of his daughters. He felt the same about close friends. After working all day, he often would be found working on neighbors or friends cars, well into the evening hours. He rarely, if at anytime, missed any extracurricular activities of any of his children. When the grandchildren came along, he did not know the word, "no". He was always willing to take care or do whatever was needed for his grandchildren. They were his pride and joy. Jerome was the rock and foundation of his family.
In addition to Jerome's parents and his wife, Nina Faye Rentz, he was preceded in death by his son, Charles Austin Rentz; sister, Nonie Wilson, and brothers, Lee, Orell, Delma, Ralph, and Billy Rentz. Jerome is survived by his daughters, Cynthia Brewster and her husband, Lewis, of Houston; Janet Rentz, of Pasadena; and Susan Oney and her husband, Robert, of Cleveland. Also surviving are Jerome's grandchildren, Alexia Rentz-Anastopoulos; Christopher Brewster and his wife, Bethany; Lindsay Brewster; Ashley Brewster; Renee Brewster Trager and her husband, Damon; Clinton Oney and his wife, Tiffany; "honorary" son, Alex Anastopoulos; "bonus" grandson, Jason Phillips; 5 great grandchildren; multiple nieces and nephews, and last (but not least), Jerome and Nina's best friends, James and Billie Kinney.
Pallbearers are Lewis Brewster, Robert Oney, Christopher Brewster, Jason Phillips, Alex Anastopoulos, and Ciro Jimenez.
