Phillip James Coughlin, 74, was born on September 5, 1949, in Davenport, Iowa, to Mary Norma McGarry and Ralph Joseph Coughlin.

He passed away on February 7, 2024, at home surrounded by his loved ones. Phil graduated Assumption High School, he later attended Saint Ambrose College.

Phil served four years in the United States Air Force. Phil worked as an accountant for the United States Army Corps of Engineers in Omaha, Nebraska and later transferred to the Galveston, Texas Division as Chief of Accounting where he finished his 30-year career.

Phil enjoyed playing golf with his buddies, watching sports on television, spending time with family and friends.

Phil is preceded in death by his parents Mary and Ralph Coughlin.

He is survived by his wife of 36 years Esther Cruz and stepson Christopher Cruz and wife Kelly, their children Falyn and Jagger, Sister Dottie Becker and husband Kenneth, nephew Scott Becker and wife Marsha and their children Zoe, Joslyn, and Aubrey. Brian Becker and wife Emily and their children Kamryn, Talen, Brynnley. In-laws, Alfred and Melva Cruz, Virginia Diaz de Leon, Larry Cruz, David Cruz, Liz and Don Kenney (DK), as well as numerous nieces and nephews and relatives.

Pallbearers are Christopher Cruz, Scott Becker, Brian Becker, Larry Cruz, David Cruz, Don Kenney. Honorary Pallbearers: Alfredo Cruz, Kenneth Becker.

The Family of Phillip Coughlin will receive visitors from 5:00 to 8:00 PM Thursday, February 15, 2024, at Carnes Brothers Funeral Home with a Rosary to be held at 6:30 P.M.

A funeral mass will be held at St. Patrick Catholic Church at 1 P.M. Friday February 16, 2024, followed by a graveside service at Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
