Reta Gene Leatherman Parrish

Reta was born in Dallas Texas in 1929.  She went to Southern Methodist University and Texas State College for Women for her Mathematics degrees.  She was a lifelong member of Delta Kappa Gamma.  She taught Mathematics for forty years finishing her teaching career at Lamar University as an Associate Professor.  During those forty years, Reta also married the love of her life Daniel W. Parrish Jr in 1956.  She had two children, Dan and Lauryn and was blessed by five grandchildren and one step-grandchild.

Reta is predeceased by her grandson Daniel and her husband Daniel Parrish Jr.  She is survived by her son Daniel III, daughter Lauryn and four grandchildren Reanna, Joshua, Caitlin and Christopher.

Reta dedicated her life to teaching and her family.  She was a devout lifelong Methodist.  She enjoyed traveling with her husband Dan.  Reta and Dan restored a 1929 Model A and traveled with it.  She was also a cat lover.

She lived the last eight years in Galveston Texas. Reta died July 7, 2021 from natural causes. The family expresses appreciation to her caregiver Michelle Jones.

The family wishes in lieu of flowers that a donation be made in her memory to Disabled American Veterans (DAV) or . Lamar University Scholarship Fund-Mary Katherine Bell Memorial Scholarship in Education.

A memorial service will be held 2:00pm Sunday July 18, 2021 at Carnes Brothers Funeral Home, Rev. Kathy Ozenberger officiating.
