A life well lived. Rita Perez Acosta, 94, of Galveston was peacefully called to her eternal home on Tuesday, July 21, 2026 with her loving family by her side.
Born on August 26, 1931, she lived a life full of love and laughter. Rita shared 61 years of marriage with Benjamin Acosta. Together they raised 5 children, they enjoyed going to dances on the weekends, and listening to Tejano music. Their home remained a gathering place for decades, on holidays, the weekends, and impromptu visits for all family and friends that often lasted well into the evening. Rita loved to cook and bake cookies for her loved ones. She often spent quality time sewing and catering to her family.
Rita was welcomed home by her devoted husband, Benjamin, sons, Hector and Albert Acosta, brother Jose Perez, and grandsons, Bryan and Ryan Medina.
Cherishing the memories of Rita are her sister, Maria Guadalupe "Lupe" Salinas; daughters, Linda Acosta , MariaElena Olvera, and Maricela Acosta Medina; grandchildren, Albert Acosta (Christina), Geneva Acosta, Melissa Galicia (Aubrey), Monique Medina, Angela Olvera-Davis (Edward), Christi Olvera (Eric), Elena Paige (Timothy), Lorie Alcazar, and Shawn Alcazar (Melina); great grandchildren, Aidan, Adessa, Andreus, Arian, Xiomara, Daniel C., Caleb, Marley, Molly, Mariah, Dante, Shante, Taya, Chelsi, Christian, Davion, Sienna, Shawn Jr, Lalo Ray, Richard, Diego, Daniel, Olivia, Izabella, Samiah, Anastasia, Casino and great-great grandchildren; including numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Pallbearers include Johnny Martinez, Roland Martinez, Albert Acosta, Aubrey Marshall, Marley Marshall, and Edward Davis.
The family will receive visitors at the Carnes Brothers Funeral Home-Galveston on Thursday, August 6, 2026 from 5:00pm until 8:00pm where a rosary will be recited at 6:30pm. A Funeral Mass will be held 10am Friday, August 7, 2026 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Galveston. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery under the direction of Carnes Brothers Funeral Home.
