Born on January 13, 1940, in Galveston, Texas, Ruth was the daughter of Birdlie and Roy Nelson. She graduated from Ball High School in Galveston and continued her education through college studies. Later, she moved to Northern California with her son to pursue new opportunities and endeavors.
Eventually, Ruth returned to her beloved hometown of Galveston, where she co-founded a real estate development company with her brother, Allen Nelson. She later served in a leadership role in real estate development and management with a family-owned business in Bayou Vista, owned by Joey Broussard, overseeing projects throughout the Galveston Gulf Coast area.
Ruth found her greatest joy in spending time with her family. She cherished vacations with her grandchildren, helping relatives in times of need without ever expecting anything in return, and gathering with loved ones whenever possible. She enjoyed Sunday football, watching her favorite pastor each Sunday morning, late nights with Blue Bell ice cream and a good movie, tackling DIY projects, and simply enjoying life in the home where she was raised.
Ruth's heart reflected that of the biblical Ruth—full of love, loyalty, devotion, and unwavering commitment to her family.
"For where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay. Your people will be my people and your God my God."
— Ruth 1:16
