Sarah Alice "Bebe"
Garcia
Jun 25, 1943 — Aug 24, 2026
Galveston
In Loving Memory of Sarah “Alice” Garcia
Sarah “Alice” Garcia, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and cherished friend, went to be with her Heavenly Father on August 24, 2026, at the age of 83.
Sarah was born on June 25, 1943, in Galveston, Texas, to Celso Vargas and Anita Hernandez. She dedicated many years of her life to serving others and retired from UTMB.
Sarah was preceded in death by her beloved sisters, Delores “Lola” Guarnelo and Anita “Annie” Trevino, whom she missed and loved so very much. We find comfort in knowing that she is now reunited with her sisters, whom she carried in her heart throughout her life.
She is survived by her sisters, Clara Grimaldo, Rita Jimenez, and her baby sister, Elizabeth “Liz” Hernandez, who will carry her memory and love in their hearts.
After retirement, Sarah began a new and deeply meaningful chapter of her life as a nanny for the O’Donohue family. Caring for Wendy, Connor, and Reva meant the world to Sarah and to the Garcia family. Over the years, the bond they shared grew into something much greater than that of a nanny and the children she cared for. Connor and Reva lovingly claimed Sarah as their grandmother, and she embraced them with all the love a grandmother could give.
Being a nanny was not simply a job to Sarah—it was a blessing and a source of great joy. The love, respect, and appreciation she shared with the O’Donohue family can never truly be expressed in words.
Sarah is lovingly survived by her children, Richard Anthony Vargas (Dennis), Tracy Anthony Garcia (Norma), Linda Rene Morales (Alex), Julia "Judy" Greyson (Mike), and Sarah Alice Bender (Gene). She also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren, David A. Garcia (Alexandria), Christopher A. Bender, John A. Garcia, Sarahbeth Hasselmeier, Elizabeth Bender, Patricia Bender, Miranda Rebuelta, Megan Stamper (Jarey), Kimberly Bender (fiancé Zach), and Dominic Greyson. Her legacy continues through her great-grandchildren, Devin Garcia, Kailee, Audri, Alivia, Mondo R., and Caleb Stewart, and her great-great-grandchild, Melody Garcia.
Sarah’s greatest gift was the love she gave to her family. She was a woman whose heart made room for everyone, and the bonds she created extended far beyond blood. She will forever be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and a treasured part of the O’Donohue family.
A special thank you goes to Sarah’s Lotería (bingo) friends, who brought her so much happiness, laughter, and companionship. Thank you for the wonderful memories, the good times, and for being such a special part of her life. Your friendship meant more to Sarah than words can express.
A Special Thank You
Our family would also like to give a very special and heartfelt thank you to Elizabeth “Liz” Hernandez, Sarah’s baby sister, and Joe Gonzalez, Liz’s fiancé, for always being there for our Mom—no questions asked. Your love, care, support, and willingness to be there whenever she needed you meant more to our family than words can ever express. You stood by her, helped her, and made sure she never felt alone. We will forever be grateful for the love and kindness you showed our Mom. Thank you for loving her and being there for her until the very end.
And to our beloved Mom, thank you for everything. Thank you for all the hard work, love, and sacrifices you made throughout your life for your children. You always put your children first and gave so much of yourself to make sure we were cared for and loved. Your strength, wisdom, faith, and the lessons you taught us will remain with us forever. Your children will carry those lessons in their hearts and pass them on through the generations. We may no longer be able to hold your hand or hear your voice, but we will carry your love with us every day. Thank you for being our Mom and for giving us a lifetime of love. We love you, Mom, and we will miss you always.
Though her family and friends will deeply miss her, we find comfort in knowing that Sarah is now at peace with her Heavenly Father and reunited with the sisters she loved so dearly. Her love, kindness, laughter, sacrifices, and the memories she created will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
“Her love will remain with us always, and her memory will never fade.”
The Family of Sarah “Bebe” Garcia would like to invite everyone to a reception at the Galveston Elks Lodge at 7:00 P.M. at 1518 23rd St. in Galveston. We would like to extend a special thank you to the Molis Family for organizing the reception.
