Shelby Groth ( Bolton), 88, of Galveston, Texas, passed away  on December 1, 2025.

Born on January 7, 1937, in Central City, Iowa, Shelby spent her childhood in Salinas, California, where she graduated from Alisal High School. As a young woman, she possessed a beautiful singing voice and performed with Sweet Adelines International, traveling across the United States and parts of Europe to share her talent.

Shelby dedicated her professional life to nursing, a calling that allowed her to do what she loved most—caring for others. She worked as a registered nurse at St. Mary's Hospital and later at UTMB in Galveston, from which she eventually retired.

Known for her sharp mind and gentle spirit, Shelby was the family's walking encyclopedia, always ready with wisdom drawn from a lifetime of experiences. She found joy in the simple pleasures: a good book (there was always one beside her), Jeopardy! on television, British mysteries, crossword puzzles, and crocheting warm blankets for her children and grandchildren. Family gatherings often included her singing classic songs from the 1930s and beyond, her voice filling the room with warmth and nostalgia.

Shelby was predeceased by her beloved husband, David Groth, and her parents, Esther and Everett Huntington (Archibald Bolton).

She is survived by her nine children: Deborah, Kimberly, Brian, Michelle, Kristin, Katheryn, Karolyn, Karin, and Kayla; her sister, Therese Huntington; her brother, Everett Huntington; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will carry forward her love, stories, and handmade blankets.

Shelby's life was one of quiet strength, boundless curiosity, and deep devotion to family. She will be greatly missed, but her light will continue to shine in the hearts of all who knew her.
