Obituary

Theresa Moreno Kalsnes, 77, was born on December 3, 1948, in Galveston, Texas, and passed away on September 9, 2026, at UTMB in Galveston, surrounded by those who loved her most.

A 1968 graduate of Ball High School, Theresa proudly served as a Tornette. She went on to build a successful career in banking, becoming a Vice President at United States National Bank, now Frost Bank.

Theresa is survived by her husband of 57 years, high school sweetheart, and best friend, Erling “Earl” Kalsnes. Their love story began when they were just 16 years old. She is also survived by her daughter, Sunday Roberts; son-in-law, Shawn Roberts; grandsons, Colby Roberts and his wife, Siena, and Tucker Roberts and his wife, Madeleine “Maddy”; and four of her twelve siblings: Oscar Moreno, Josie Laird, Mary Ann Pothos, and Manuel Moreno.

Theresa was one of thirteen children born to Juan Moreno Sr. and Josephina Hernandez. She was preceded in death by her parents and eight of her siblings.

A woman of strong Catholic faith, Theresa was a magnificent wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She had a gift for caring for others and would do anything for the people she loved. Many knew her affectionately as “Grandma T” or “Mi Abuela.”

Theresa found great joy in serving her community. On Thursdays, she loved volunteering alongside her daughter, Sunday, delivering meals for Galveston Island Meals on Wheels. She also enjoyed reading books to guests at Ronald McDonald House Galveston.

Nothing brought Theresa more happiness than caring for her grandsons, whom she lovingly called her “grandboys.” She loved making breakfast for them and would do absolutely anything they needed. Among the special dishes her family will always remember are her fried shrimp with homemade tartar sauce and the deviled eggs she brought to family gatherings. She also looked forward to contributing her specialties to the family’s Thanksgiving meals.

Theresa loved spending time with her sisters, eating at Miller’s Seawall Grill, going to the game rooms, and watching Lifetime and Hallmark movies—especially the Christmas in July movies.

She will be remembered for her generous heart, devotion to her faith and family, and the cutest smile that could brighten any room. The love she gave so freely will live on through everyone whose life she touched.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, September 13, 2026, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Carnes Brothers Funeral Home in Galveston. Funeral services will be held 10:00 am Monday, September 14, 2026, at Carnes Brothers Funeral Home with burial to follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Erling “Earl” Kalsnes, Shawn Roberts, Colby Roberts, Tucker Roberts, Ray Cruz, and Stefanos Pothos. Honorary Pallbearers are Carl Kirk, Kirk Wall, Oscar Moreno and Eddie Jaramillo.
