Veronica Catherine Cromie age 83 of Galveston passed away Tuesday January 2, 2024 at Jennie Sealy Hospital in Galveston with her loving family by her side. Funeral Mass is 10:00am Saturday January 6, 2024 at St. Patrick Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Grace Memorial Park in Hitchcock under the direction of Carnes Brothers Funeral Home. The family will receive visitors at the funeral home from 5:00pm until 8:00pm on Friday, January 5, 2024 where a rosary will be recited at 6:30pm.

Veronica was born June 21, 1940 in Guttenberg, New Jersey to Valentine Joseph Hoffman and Loretta Madeline Russell Hoffman. A faithful catholic all of her life, mom volunteered at Our Lady of Guadalupe School for many years before working for Galveston Catholic Schools for over 49 years. Her fondest memories were of the many children she served over the years who would often see her or one of her own children and talk of the many times that Mrs. Cromie touched their heart, made an impact or had a good influence on their lives. The children and people she touched were important to her. The love that was given was given because of a deep concern or burden in her heart for the people and the children. Even though Veronica was a Jersey girl who never lost her accent, she quickly became a Galvestonian at heart who loved eating Crabs and Mashed Potatoes. Always an avid Astros Fan who loved working Jigsaw Puzzles, watching the Game Show Network and traveling with her beloved family on Cruises; her greatest joy was just spending time with the family, whom she dearly loved, at family functions and holiday occasions, as well as all others who would drop by.

Preceded in death by her parents Valentine Joseph Hoffman and Loretta Madeline Russell Hoffman, husband Michael John Cromie; sister Loretta Black and a brother Harry Hoffman; survivors include daughters Susie Cromie, Barbara Driggers and husband Tommy Driggers, Jr. and Veronica Cromie all of Galveston; sons, Mike Cromie and wife Carol of Santa Fe, Tim Cromie and wife Kerri of League City and Jay Cromie and wife Dawn of Galveston; grandchildren Erial Cromie, Brooke Cromie, Sarah Driggers, Abbey Harrison and husband Austin, Jake Johnson and wife Melissa,  Tommy "Trey" Driggers, III, Craig and Brian Cromie and their mother Tammy; great grandchildren Glenn Harrison, Mack Johnson; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many former students and friends.

Pallbearers are Jake Johnson, Austin Harrison, Joe Hoffman, Craig Cromie, Brian Cromie and Keith Fickessen. Honorary pallbearer is Tommy Driggers, Jr.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the Doctors and nurses for the wonderful care given to Mrs. Cromie while in the ICU at UTMB.
