Vincent Marion
Sorrentino, Jr.
Jul 9, 1964 — Oct 16, 2023
Galveston
Vincent Marion Sorrentino, Jr, age 59, passed away on Monday, October 16, 2023 at home surrounded by his loving family after a hard-fought battle with esophageal cancer. His courage and strength throughout his fight was admirable. He is now rejoicing in heaven with his parents and Aunt Nellie, his birthday twin.
Vincent, known to the family as Brother, was born July 9th, 1964, at St Mary's Hospital in Galveston to Vincent Sorrentino, Sr. and Kathleen Elfstrom Sorrentino.
Brother wore many different hats during his short time on this mortal earth. He began working at the young age of 13 at KarmelKorn and Baskin Robbins. Brother's true passion was caring for and serving others. He was like a combination of the shows Emergency and Adam 12, becoming addicted to emergencies, which led him to become a 911 dispatcher for the City of Galveston and City of Dickinson. He later became a paramedic with Galveston EMS for many years, while still dispatching for one or both cities at times. Brother always had the most fun working Mardi Gras weekends and starred as a paramedic in the movie Keaton's Cop that was filmed on the island. He also went to the police academy and became an officer with Galveston PD and then a deputy with the Galveston County Sheriff's Office. Brother ended his career as a Physician Assistant, working in multiple emergency rooms and urgent cares all over the Galveston-Houston area. At one point, Brother even initiated a family affair working for Royal Caribbean Cruise Line with himself, his Dad, Andy and Nancy.
Brother was known for working 20 days in a row, just so he could take extended vacations with Andy, Ringo and Abby, initially cruising and then camping. It seemed like every time we turned around, they were getting a bigger RV to travel in. Brother thoroughly enjoyed camping, especially in Townsend, Tennessee/Dollywood, The Judds, I Love Lucy, his Volkswagen Cabrolet, trips to the casino and you did not call him when The Price is Right was on because he would hang up on you!
To know Brother was to love Brother. His passion in life was to help others. He never met a stranger and made everyone he came in contact with laugh with his words or actions. He made all his patients and families feel better, even at their worst moments. His practical jokes would keep his co-workers on their toes no matter where he worked.
Vincent was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved pets Ethel, FiFi and Napoleon, as well as grandparents, aunts and uncles. He is survived by his spouse, Andy Edinburgh; pets, Ringo, Abby and Samantha; sister, Sheryl McGaffey (Mark); brother, Daniel Sorrentino (Jennifer); 2nd Mom, Pat Edinburgh; brother-in-law, Mike Edinburgh (Kathleen); nieces, Dayna Villarreal (Mel), Rachel Compton (Howard), Kirsten Sorrentino, Victoria Cole, Avery, Chloe, Hailey and Whitney Edinburgh; nephews, Brandon Compton (Lucinda), Andrew Sorrentino (Stephanie) and Chase Cole; great nieces, Alyssa Rylie and Bayler; great nephews Benjamin, Peyton and Emerson; cousin he considered a bonus sister, Nancy Lounds (Don); and lifelong friends, Marcel Bowen and Barbie Thorp.
Vincent and his family would like to offer a special thank you to Dr. Franz Schneider, Dr. David Fairweather as well as the team at Methodist Clear Lake Cancer Center; Dr. Joshi, Dana, Allison, Gio, Lexy, Cynthia and Clarissa.
Family and Friends are invited to celebrate the life of Vincent on Saturday, October 28, 2023, at 10:00am at Carnes Brothers Funeral Home in Galveston, TX. We ask that if you have any special memories, please bring them with you to share.
