Wilma Katherine Gray was born July 6, 1937 in Oakland California.  Kathy always loved a good surprise, and she was born with one!  Her mother had no idea she was carrying twins, and so it was a surprise that her twin brother Richard was born next!

Kathy graduated from Fremont High in 1955.  Her church had an outreach ministry for the sailors called the "Say so House".  This outreach was based on Psalm 107:2..." Let the redeemed of the Lord say so."  When a certain tall dark and handsome sailor walked in from Texas, their eyes met, and it was love at first sight.  After a brief engagement, they were Married May 4, 1956 at Melrose Baptist Church in Oakland California.

The Navy moved them to San Diego, California, Albuquerque New Mexico, and finally to Norfolk Virginia where their first child Leah was born.  Soon after, he completed his service in the Navy, they moved to Houston Texas where Stephen, Sandra, and Russel were born.

Having an adventurous spirit, Kathy and Martin enjoyed spending summers camping.  She was an expert at setting up camp and packing all the necessary items needed for "roughing it".  As long as there was a beach, lake, or stream to fish and swim the family were "happy campers".  Her children have cherished memories of their mom flipping pancakes so high in the air they would get stuck in the trees!

Kathy's faith in Christ did not only consist of going to church when the doors were open, but was evident in her life.  She had a genuine care for those around her, whether an elderly neighbor needing a meal or even a lonely child who needed a friend.  Her door and heart were always open to help however she could.

Crafts, sewing, crocheting and quilting gave her an outlet where she could let her creativity run wild!  Her sewing room was her "happy place" and the machines were continuously buzzing as she enjoyed making aprons, quilts, and gifts for those she loved.  She was quick to join charitable groups who sewed various items to comfort children in the hospital.

The family moved so much that people often thought Martin was still in the military.  Her collection of craft items, books, fabrics and accessories grew with each move.  Martin's theory was that if they moved to a small town without a craft or fabric store that the problem of the growing fabric collection would be solved.  So....as a last ditch effort, he moved to an island!  But....there was a bridge......

This would not be complete without mentioning how much she loved playing games, especially bridge or 42.  She was very good, and you were always glad to be her partner!

Finally, she loved her family and instilled a love for God in her children that is continually influencing the next generation.  How do we say good by?  We don't....only we will see you in Heaven!!  You will be dearly missed but forever in our hearts!

Kathy was preceded in death by her parents William and Minnie Maude Gray, husband Martin Louis Thomas, brother Davis Gray and wife Audrey, sister Claranell and husband Clinton Christensen, Twin brother Richard Gray.

She is survived by her children Leah and husband Jeff Pitman, Stephen and wife Belinda Thomas, Sandra Spice, Russell and wife Annie Thomas.  Also her twin brother's wife Pat Gray, brother in law William Thomas and wife Rosemary, Grandchildren; Aaron Pitman, Daniel Pitman, Christopher Thomas, Krystal Hair, Celeste Thomas, Zachariah Jackson, Gabriel Jackson, Rachel Spice, DeeAnn Nance, and Leslee Hood.  8 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
